VenaSeal

Understanding VenaSeal Treatment

What is VenaSeal?

VenaSeal is a cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedure used to treat chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and varicose veins. It uses a medical adhesive to seal the affected veins, rerouting blood flow to healthier veins. This is an outpatient procedure and typically requires no anesthesia or sedation. As a result, it is a convenient and comfortable option for many patients.

What is VenaSeal Made Of?

The treatment utilizes a specially formulated medical adhesive made of cyanoacrylate, a type of polymer. Cyanoacrylate adhesives feature in many medical applications due to their strong bonding properties and biocompatibility. The adhesive is safe, effective, and designed to provide a permanent solution for sealing the affected veins.

How Does VenaSeal Work?

The procedure typically follows these steps:

  1. Preparation: First, we clean and prep the affected leg, then we numb the area where we are going to access the vein with a local anesthetic.
  2. Catheter Insertion: Secondly, we insert a small catheter into the affected vein using ultrasound guidance.
  3. Adhesive Delivery: Then we use the catheter to deliver adhesive into the vein. As we slowly withdraw the catheter, we apply the adhesive along the length of the vein, sealing it shut.
  4. Closure: Finally, blood flow naturally redirects to healthier veins.

The entire procedure usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes, and patients can return to work immediately afterward.

What Happens After VenaSeal Treatment?

After VenaSeal treatment, you can expect:

  • Symptomatic Improvement/Relief: Some patients experience significant improvement of their presenting symptoms shortly after treatment.
  • Minimal Downtime: There is minimal downtime, so you can resume normal activities immediately.
  • No Compression Stockings: Unlike other vein treatments, you do not normally need compression therapy after treatment, unless you also receive ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy during the treatment window.
  • Follow-Up: You will need a follow-up appointment to monitor the treated veins and ensure proper healing.

What are the risks of Endovenous Laser Ablation?

As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and side effects. These include post-procedure discomfort in the treated area, bruising, swelling, inflammation and in rare cases localized skin reaction/irritation, development of a deep venous thrombosis (DVT), systemic allergic reaction or infection. It’s important to discuss any concerns before undergoing the procedure.

What Are the Benefits of VenaSeal Treatment?

VenaSeal has many benefits, including:

  • Minimally Invasive: The procedure involves only a small catheter insertion, reducing the risk of complications and scarring.
  • Quick Recovery: Patients can return to their daily activities almost immediately.
  • No Anesthesia Required: The procedure also does not require general anesthesia or sedation.
  • No Risk of Thermal Injury: because there is no thermal energy applied, there is no risk of thermal injury during a VenaSeal procedure.
  • No Compression Stockings: Patients typically do not need to wear compression stockings after the procedure.
  • Effective and Durable: It provides long-lasting results with high success rates.

How Effective is VenaSeal Treatment?

VenaSeal is highly effective, with clinical studies showing success rates exceeding 95%. The procedure seals treated veins permanently, and patients often experience significant improvement in their symptoms and overall quality of life. In conclusion, it is a reliable solution for those suffering from CVI and varicose veins.

How Long Does VenaSeal Last?

Results should be permanent. The medical adhesive seals the vein shut, and your body will gradually absorb the closed vein. After treatment, blood flow redirects to healthier veins, providing lasting relief from the symptoms as a result.

Is VenaSeal Right for Me?

VenaSeal may be a suitable treatment option if you have:

  • Chronic Venous Insufficiency: This procedure effectively treats the underlying cause of CVI.
  • Varicose Veins: If you have symptomatic varicose veins, it can provide relief.
  • Failed Conservative Treatments: If you still have symptoms after using conservative measures, this treatment could help.
  • No history of allergic reactions to adhesives, autoimmune disease, atopic eczema
